Tommy Bahama Restaurant

Good news if you enjoy Tommy Bahama%26#39; s restaurant! They%26#39;re opening a restaurant in Myrtle Beach this spring! We ate at their Orlando location tonight and had a lengthy discussion with the manager. They%26#39;re building in the new shopping area being developed by the old air force base. What a great addition to Myrtle Beach!

It is good news that upscale chains like Tommy Bahama%26#39;s and Ruth%26#39;s Chris have decided Myrtle Beach is now affluent enough to support their businesses.

I would personally rather see locally-owned businesses, as it seems most travel destinations are turning into the same generic, carbon-copy ';mall'; atmosphere.

What we love about Myrtle Beach is the blend of locally owned,

Luigi%26#39;s, Villa Romana, etc. as well as the better chains. Tommy Bahama is not a big chain, they only have 9 locations (one opening in Vegas this year as well). They grow slow and their goal is to attract the locals for repeat business. Our experience in Orlando was fantastic, from service to the meal. They offer a different atmosphere than many other restaurants.

In today%26#39;s Myrtle Beach real estate market it is very difficult for a local to get started. We will continue to support the local restaurants but do enjoy a great meal at select chains as well.
