Christmas with kids?

I have no idea where to start in my vacation planning this year. We%26#39;re dying to see snow but of course can%26#39;t guarantee it anywhere. Any wonderful ideas for Chrismtas in South Carolina. (doesn%26#39;t have to snow!!). Anywhere in the state is within driving distance.

Best bet to see snow would be in the foothills in the northwest corner of the state, using a hotel in Anderson, Clemson, or Greenville as your base. Unfortunately there isn%26#39;t much else to see in the upstate in winter.

However, hotels in the tourist areas (Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Beaufort, Hilton Head) will offer their rooms at a very low rate due to the off-season, and the historic sites in downtown Charleston and Beaufort as well as the shopping in Hilton Head are available any time of the year:)

If you want to see snow, Charleston is not the place! I would go on up to North Carolina for that. The Mountains are beautiful in the snow! Asheville is a great town not far from South Carolina. But Charleston does provide a beautiful backdrop for Christmas time. It%26#39;s as historical as Boston, and there is a church on just about every corner. You can take a chilly horse drawn carraige ride around the cobblestone streets and eat like kings at all of the fabulous restaurants. It just depends on what your expectaions are.

Snow in the southeast at Christmas....not likely. Possibly but doubtfully Mount Mitchell in NC; the tallest peak in the East.

Have been in the Charlotte area for about 8 years now. Have yet to see snow at Christmas. Have seen a dusting in Hendersonville (mountains) one year, but like you said, no guarantees. If you happen to be in the Myrtle Beach area, you have got to go to Brookgreen Gardens. Spectacular gardens w/ decorations, candles, lights. In addition, performances (ballet, dance, music), and some food/dring. Have to see it to believe it. There is also a fun parade for kids (believe it was at Surfside beach).

Brookgreen is also a reasonable distance from Charleston. I would vote for Charleston overall as a nice place to spend the holidays.
