Which area?

Hi everyone,

Just looking over the rental options on Kiawah, and wondered if there%26#39;s a great difference in the areas offered on rental sites; East Beach,West Beach, Vanderhorst, or Turtle Beach. We really love the beach and especially like boogie boarding, and I wonder if the surf varies at one area to another. I also know the kids would love renting bikes and cruising around...

Thanks for your help

Which area?

The surf is pretty much constant along the south-facing beach. Of course, in ten miles of beach, you will find local variations. The entire beach is excellent for bicycling. you can rent bikes and boogie boards, as well as surf boards and ocean kayaks.

Your decision on where to rent will depend on the kind of accommodation you want, and on how close you want to be to other amenities - golf courses, tennis, courts, The Sanctuary Hotel, etc.

East Beach, West Beach, and Turtle Beach have condos and cottages for rent as well as a few larger homes. In the Vanderhorst area, all rentals are single family homes. Nothing is very far from the beach, but some places are longer walks than are others.

Which area?

I would suggest you get close to Night Heron Park and The Sanctuary Hotel. The amenities around there will be better than some other spots, which have almost nothing. I know we would not consider anywhere else now that we%26#39;ve been there. It%26#39;s a nice easy walks to the pool, a peek at the hotel, and up to a central reservation / check in area where you can get something to eat or a newspaper. I think this is the ';East Beach'; location, but check the map because I don%26#39;t remember for sure. Just find hotel on the map and go from there. We stayed at the Wind Swept Villas.

The beach is about the same all over. Walking on the beach under the stars is just great.

For a first vist, I would agree with the previous poster that you will enjoy staying close to The Sanctuary Hotel and to the Resort amenities.

Rental properties close to the hotel and surrounding Night Heron Park (with big pool, outdoor restaurant, nature center, etc.), as well as to the beach, include: Windswept Villas, Parkside Villas, and Night Heron Cottages.

Bike trails cover the entire island, and golf courses are distributed around the island.

We always stayed at a Sparrow Pond. With young kids we loved having the neighborhood pool ( Doesn%26#39;t Inlet Cove has a neighborhood pool?), being able to walk to the beach, and being away from the parkway(the main road).

If your have teens, staying around the Park is probably the best option as they can come and go; enjoy a pick up game of basketball, or kicking the soccer ball around. If your kids are younger and will be ';supervised';, you could stay a little farther away from the Sanctuary as you%26#39;ll want to ride your bikes everywhere!

KiawahVilla, isn%26#39;t Night Heron pool now the only pool a rental guest can access if they are not staying in a neighborhood with a pool? Do you have up-to-do prices? It%26#39;s a nice pool although we have never used it. Perhaps we got to busy looking at the critters in the animal center. That%26#39;s still there, right?

There are two Resort poolsavailable to villa renters : The large Night Heron pool, and a one smaller ';adult'; pool at the East Beach Tennis Center. The Night Heron pool is quite nice, and we love the nature center!

As OurGreatEscape mentioned, some neighborhoods have pools that are owned by the property owners (not the Resort). These pools are available only to people who own or rent in that specific neighborhood.

We stayed in Night Heron cottages next to Night Heron Park with our 4 kids. Being near the park worked great because the boys could find pickup basketball games and other boys to hang with. The pool is plenty big there, but the water is not heated. The nature center is in the park and they offer really neat excursions. You will also have close proximity to the beach. We rode bikes all week and all over Kiawah. Try vrbo.com and check out all the different types of rentals available.
