Hey all,
Probably going to take a week%26#39;s vacation in MB next month or in November.
I%26#39;ve been there plenty of times and one of the unfortunate developments in MB seems to be the increasing dearth of live bands and clubs. I do wistfully recall places such as Danger Zone and the gone-but-not-forgotten Rockburger, etc...
As I%26#39;d detailed in a previous post, I was told by the former owner that Rockburger was basically run out of town as it didn%26#39;t fit with the Powers%26#39; That Be image of a family vacation spot, which does not include rock clubs (but apparently *does* include strip joints and escort services. Go figure). Fortunately for the very concerned and family-conscious PTB, upon my last cruise down the boulevard, Rockburger has been replaced with yet another Wings or Eagles T-shirt, snow globe, shot glass and useless junk tourist store. Just what MB needs more of...
Last time we were there was in the fall of %26#39;04, so perhaps things have changed a bit. But back then, I just couldn%26#39;t find much more than karaoke bars. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong spots?
The wife and I are pro musicians in the Nashville area and know from other musicians here that MB does offer decent opportunity for backing musicians such as at those Neil Diamond or Elton John tribute shows, Dixie Stampede and the like. Thing is, I gotta figure, knowing musicians, they must be going crazy playing ';Crocodile Rock'; or ';Love On The Rocks'; night after night after night...
There must be some place where *they* go to jam and play the music they like. And I%26#39;m not hard to please either. I like Heavy Metal, Country, Southern Rock, Blues, Jazz.
It just seems so hit or miss at times though. One visit several years ago, the wife and I were riding our bicycles in the the early afternoon when I%26#39;d heard a band playing with one of the finest seasoned and well-rounded guitarists I%26#39;d ever heard. If I recall correctly, they were playing at Ocean Annie%26#39;s. Shame that this guy was so good and playing to such a small group, just about all of which were paying no mind to the band. Has to be as frustrating for the musicians as it is for me to find this caliber of music.
Anyway, would be very interested in any and all recommendations.
Thanks in advance!
