Last summer we rented through Pam Harrington and our experience was fine--although our condo was a bit musty and dated, all in all it was a great trip. This year we are taking a chance on renting through the resort, hoping to take advantage of some of the amenities (pool, etc.), knowing that we will not know exactly what the villa looks like.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for renting through the resort?
Also, last year, It seemed there was a long line of cars at the security checkpoint and then a line of people waiting to check in at the resort welcome center. With Pam Harrington, we were given our passes and keys ahead of time and were able to bypass the line.
Thanks!

To avoid the long lines for check in on Saturday afternoon, I suggest that you try to arrive earlier in the day. Even though your villa will probably not be ready, you can still go through the check in process, and then enjoy lunch or a swim while you wait.
The Resort does not post photos online. Speaking with the reservationist, be as specific as possible about where you want to be located, what kind of view you want, etc. Since you have been to Kiawah before, you know that ';scenic'; can refer to anything - from a spectacular marsh/water view, to a view of a tree-lined parking lot!
Also inquire as to whether their are premier properties available for your desired location. The premier villas are the most freshly decorated and lavishly equipped; they also cost a bit more, but may be worth it.
The Resort will take a request for a specific unit. The Resort does not guarantee that the specific property will be available upon check in. If they cannot give you the property requested, they will put you in a comparable, sometimes even better, property.

Another tip: book as early as possible; the best places fill up first. A lot of repeat guests will rebook the same place year after year.
Have a great vacation!
try vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner). They have tons of Kiawah rentals listed and you can see photos of the villas and homes right online. We have done this before and never had a problem. You can find rentals that include the resort amenities too. This is a late answer for this past summer , but you can consider this for next summer.
