areas to avoid??

Thinking of trying MB in July. I have narrowed it down to Coral Beach, Compass Cove and Long Bay. We have 2 kids-15yrs old and 10 yrs old. A co-worker told me that we needed to avoid south MB. She said it was not safe??? Is this true? I can not find a map showing where the hotels are located and I am not sure what area(if any) we need to avoid. Can someone tell me if these hotels are in a good location. Will we be able to walk around at night safely? I am open for any other hotel/resort suggestions. We want ALOT of activity for us and the kids. Crowds are not a problem as long as it is safe. Thanks!

I%26#39;ve never really felt unsafe in any part of Myrtle beach before but I understand what they%26#39;re saying about that part of MB. There are a lot of old motels along that southern strip...the area is a bit rundown looking...doesn%26#39;t seem as well lit and there%26#39;s less foot traffic at night. I%26#39;ve stayed at Coral Beach before...it%26#39;s a really nice and well lit hotel. Compass Cove is located on the southernmost edge of MB among other family oriented hotels and seems very safe.

If you want my recommendation for nice motel in MB that%26#39;s safe and centrally located in an area the kids will like, I would say The Breakers.

The Long Bay Resort is in a really nice residential area. I really enjoyed staying there.

I have always felt safe in MB around the area of Long Bay. Long Bay is my first choice of hotels when staying in MB. Just make sure you book early. We recently stayed at Compass Cove on a spur of the moment trip for the kids before school started and it was ok. My only complain was I like the area of 75th ave N. better.

Long Bay should suit your needs. Other good hotels in the same area are Dunes Village,Southwind, and Island Vista. Go to funbeaches.com and click onto sky tour then go to the area between 49thN and 79th N in Myrtle Beach to see the area from above.
