Myrtle Beach in Winter?

I%26#39;m trying to plan a short 3 or 4 day getaway for my hubby and I in December. We%26#39;ve never been to MB and I know the rates are low this time of year. Can anyone give me any insight into what it%26#39;s like there in the winter? Weather, things to do,etc. Thank you:)

Myrtle Beach in Winter?

Hi journey

You%26#39;ll see a Myrtle Beach few see. The weather this time of year can vary greatly but in general our winters are mild. Things to do: hummmm,,,,A oceanfront room..... with walks along the beach.

Maybe try Broadway at the beach for a nice evening dinner and maybe a drink at any of the many bars along the waterfront.

Check some of the shows. Alabama Theater and Carolina Opry switch to their Christmas shows during December.

Yes, December rates are a small fraction of what they are in August, and the indoor pools will be much less crowded. Some places heat their outdoor pools %26amp; spas. Most outdoor activities %26amp; perhaps a third of the restaurants will not be open, but things are far from ';dead.'; Lots of specials at this time of year, check the local newspaper.

As for weather, expect some cold spells, but generally expect highs in the fifties %26amp; sixties. If you golf the courses are not crowded.

I really enjoy the Myrtle Beach area in the off season. One thing to add to the suggestions is SHOPPING! I love to shop the outlets!!!!!

How about eating at all the best restaurants with NO wait !

December is a great time to vist Myrtle Beach. We were there right after Christmas one year and really enjoyed all the Christmas decorations. Also, we stayed at a very nice ocean front hotel for alot less than what you would pay in the summer. If you are lucky the weather could be nice enough to walk on the beach and find some neat shells.

We always go to MB from Christmas to New Years. Several reasons, the beach is still enjoyable for long uncrowded walks, no lines anywhere to contend with, the Christmas Shows are still on, The Carolina Opry is an annual treat and is excellent, great shopping for bargains, etc. We started going at that time to allow our grandchildren time to enjoy their Christmas without having to get out and go ';see about Grandma and Grandpa';. It has evolved to the point that they now go with us most years, they enjoy the ';noncrowds'; also, and their ';toys'; will still be new when they get home.

Hey there,

I think most of the posters were dead on. Myrtle Beach is great in December. The weather can change a lot so you have to be prepared for both warm and cool weather in the same week. Last year I hung my Christmas lights in shorts and a t-shirt, but wore a jacket to the tree lighting ceremony at Broadway at the Beach a few nights later. The average temperatures for MB in December are 60.

As far as things to do, the ocean is too cold in December for swimming, so leave the swimsuits at home. You can still walk on the beach and even layout for some sun if you get a warmer day. You could take the short drive to Murrells Inlet and have dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants on the marsh. As mentioned by other posters, all the theatres are running their holiday shows, and Broadway hosts Christmas events all month long.

By far one of the coolest holiday events is the Night of 1000 Candles at Brookgreen Gardens. This outdoor sculpture park and art museum lights hundreds of candles throughout the park and features live music, food and drinks each weekend night during December. It%26#39;s usually under $10 per person and is well worth it.

If I could suggest something outside the norm...every December my wife and I make a trip to Charleston, SC for a weekend. If you plan on being in for a few days and have a car you may consider breaking up the trip into a Myrtle Beach/Charleston vacation. Charleston has a ton of holiday events, theatre, restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Charleston will give you the cultural element the beach lacks. The city does a fantastic job of embracing the holiday experience with tons of decorations and lights. It%26#39;s about a 2 hour drive from the beach and very easy to get to (one road, drive in the right direction for 2 hrs and your there). If you%26#39;re looking for a romantic trip, then add Charleston to your list. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll enjoy the carriage ride on cobblestone streets surrounded by Christmas lights as much as we did!

Anyways, hope this helps!
