Inappropiate Posting

This morning an individual has started posting his protests of a local rental company all over this forum.

His postings are against the posting guidelines and are disruptive to all the other users. I expect the postings will be removed later today. On behalf of Trip Advisor, I apologise for this behavior.

From time to time vendors of any sort have made mistakes. I know most of them try to rectify them. sometimes it is impossible, or the complainer will not accept a reasonable solution. the activity on the site this morning says more about the poster, than it says about the subject of his abuse.

for the record, I am not involved in the rental business, though many of you know that besides living on Hilton Head, i do have a rental property.

Inappropiate Posting

HHIguy,

Thanks for this post. I believe there is a lesson to be learned...for guests/renters.

First, (and I can%26#39;t stress this enough) --TRIP Insurance. Things happen. Unfortunately, vacation rentals are not like hotels. Rental companies and rent-by-owners do not have a huge supply of inventory. Once a property is booked, it is taken out of inventory. During the high season, there is more demand than supply. No one anticipates problems, but problems can and do arise. Protect yourself as a consumer, purchase the trip insurance. It is cheap compared to losing a week%26#39;s vacation.

Second, do not be afraid to ask questions before you rent. If a rental company or owner does not answer your questions, move on to another property. Again you are the consumer and you know what you want from your vacation. I%26#39;ve had folks ask me some crazy questions about my home; I%26#39;ve answered them. Some inquiries became guests, some I passed on knowing my home was not suited for them.

Third, if you use a rental company, try and find out the name of the owner whose property you will be renting. While the rental company is the acting agent for the owner, sometimes we owners do not find out about the problem until too late. Do not assume the rental company is reporting the problem to the property owners. As an owner, I want to know if my guests had problems and if my management company took care of the problem. I now ask my guests to call my management company first; then call me. This way I can make sure things are taken care of...to my guests%26#39; satisfaction and my satisfaction.

Inappropiate Posting

Why do you say his was an inappropiate post? The person had some issues that were not resolved to his likeing and expressed them. No foul language was used and only his views were expressed. I have used Island Getaway and had no issues with them they seemed very helpful. I know most like to paint a rosey picture of their favorite places but in some cases that is not always the case.

The posting guidelines are clear. YOU DO NOT MAKE A PERSONAL ATTACK OR NAME AN INDIVIDUAL IN YOUR POST!

He also cut and placed this attack on many of the threads including those which had nothing to do with the company or individual involved. He could have set up a thread where he explained his problem, but not disrupt this forum for his vendetta.

Stan (hhiguy)

I am on the SC forums only occasionally, but I find it more than annoying when I come here trying to get useful information and find that this guy has clogged the entire SC board with his ';complaint';.

This dude needs to quit wasting everyone%26#39;s time and move on.

I see what you mean. This person is just trying to make a pest of him or her self. Very childish to make complaints when they are unfounded. I have never had a problem with any rentals on HHI that were%26#39;nt resolved ASAP. Some people should be banned by their mommy from the computer.

Eville,

How can you say his complaint is ';unfounded';. You have no idea. If I had rented a home with those problems, I%26#39;d be mad too. He has every right to voice his experience here, that%26#39;s what the forums are for - I personally like to hear the good as well as the bad - it may save me from a bad rental experience.

What he did wrong was mention the individual%26#39;s name and started three or four threads regarding the same rental. If he had left the man%26#39;s name out of it and only used one thread, he would be fine. When you pay good money for a vacation rental, you expect to get what you pay for. When you walk into a place that has not been cleaned and that has mold, you are mad. But when it is not rectified, you get angry and upset and then your whole vacation is ruined.

This happened to me once at a resort. The condo we rented was nasty, and I mean nasty. The carpets were so stained that we wouldn%26#39;t take our shoes off. I made them shampoo them while I was there, and it made no difference. The furniture was falling apart (and I mean that literally - broken legs, etc.). The beds were so uncomfortable, springs poked your body, it was impossible to sleep. We were constantly killing ants, spider, roaches, etc. Nothing was done by the front desk or the manager of the resort (I started voicing my concerns ten minutes after we walked in the unit) and when I got home I wrote a letter to the parent company headquarters and didn%26#39;t even get a ';I%26#39;m sorry for your experience'; letter in return. So, I feel for the guy. I hope you are never in that position.

Higuy, I know renters make mistakes and USUALLY rectify them. This renter is obviously NOT one of them. If you read this guy%26#39;s post, the owner REFUSED to even have someone clean the unit, or even look at it for that matter. That%26#39;s uncalled for. Do you personally know the gentleman he%26#39;s bashing?

Allthough this poster made some posting mistakes, it sounds like he has a legitimate complaint and you should stop bashing him!

Just to clarify, when I say referred to ';renter'; and ';owner'; I mean rental/management agency.

I know who the owner of the agency is, and the manager%26#39;s name, but I don%26#39;t know them personally.

I agree with Born to Travel that if this situation had been left with one thread and no personal names involved, it would have passed muster, however that is not what happened.

Trip Advisor has resolved the issue and removed the offending posts. I think the situation is closed and this thread should terminate.

Stan (hhiguy)

Born sorry about your expereince. The person may or may not have had a valid reason to post what he did. In most cases like this the poster usally has a beef with the person they named or is just trying to cause a uproar. I never had a bad experience with a rental due to the fact that I do my homework and check them out thoroughly.

Hi Stan,

I missed the inappropriate posting that you are referring too. I understand it was involving Island Getaway. Could you let me know what the man%26#39;s complaint was? We are coming down on Saturday and

staying at Shelter cove marina (Captains Quarters), since I have never dealt with them before, I am very anxious to hear what the problem was?

Thanks very much.
