Golf Package Providers (Myrtle Beach)

Hello,

We are looking to plan a golf outing in Myrtle Beach this fall. Does anyone know and great golf package providers? Thanks for your time.

Golf Package Providers (Myrtle Beach)

We have many golf package providers, TONYMIK is very knowledgable in the golf area and can help with courses.

www.teetimecentralonline.com

MBGolf Holiday 843-477-8833

MB Golf Desk 843-236-0016

We have many golf courses, almost every resort will offer packages as well. Might help if you give a little more specifics-NMB or MB or further South-the first weekend in Oct is Fall Bike Week, should have no bearing on your golfing, but could present fewer hotel choices, but they are mainly in MB and south anyway, not as large an event as Spring Bike Week.

Golf Package Providers (Myrtle Beach)

Let me add Barefoot Golf Resort in North MB, 4 courses, nice accomodations on the Intracoastal Waterway, good location, you can go online to barefootgolfresort.com to check that out

Thanks for the speedy response. We have been to MB a few years back to back and have always went through Pam%26#39;s Golf. They now do not service MB so we would like to find another package provider.

We have stayed a few places but we liked Myrtlewood Villa%26#39;s the best (down the street from Broadway at the Beach). I normally have a foursome, but this year it may be 3 guys. We are coming Nov. 8th - 12th. Every time we visit MB, we play different courses. I have played many. True Blue, Man O%26#39; War, Wizard, TPC, Witch, International Club, Wicked Stick, Oyster Bay, etc.. etc... I know this year we have planned to play the World Tour. I hope this info. helps a little more. Thanks once again.

- Ross

Know exactly where Myrtlewood is, lived in Magnolia Place condo%26#39;s last year -the older section. Its a super location for sure. We love Broadway at the Beach and staying there was perfect.

I really hope TONYMIK chimes in, he is coming to the beach on Saturday, but he plays alot of golf here and knows the courses well.

I work in Conway and I assume you know that Wild Wings has closed 1 or 2 of their courses, Eastport and Baytree in Little River are closed, Deer Track is also closed. Unfortunately, those courses felt it was in their best interest to sell to developers.

I know that Tony plays Burning Ridge in Conway-we have alot of courses here but I am not sure any course is worth dealing with Hwy 501.

Have you thought about going north to Sea Trails, Brunswick Plantation, Crow Creek in North Carolina-not too far over the NC/SC state line.

Just want to bump this to the top. See if I can get anymore responses. Still looking for good package providers. Thanks all.

We go to the Myrtle Beach chamber of commerce site and click on lodging and then look at the individual hotels. We e-mail them direct telling them what we want. We have 2 offers right now. One is from Crown Reef and the other is from Monterey Bay. We will be going down in mid September. Or if you find a hotel that doesn%26#39;t have a golf package, do the regular rates and then go to Myrtle Beach National%26#39;s site where you can make online tee times and pay for it and print it out. My husband%26#39;s done this several times.

http://www.myrtlebeach-golfpackage.com/

or call 866-499-4653 ask for Kay, tell her Terri sent you so she will know you get it from TA. She has lived her for years and years, she knows all the golf courses and can get you a good package deal.

I%26#39;ve used Golf Desk for the past 5 years - awesome.

Give them a call and ask to speak to BRIAN - tell him Chuck sent you.

800-642-3108

You will not find anyone better at what they do than Brian.

Not sure what they provide as far as ';golf outings'; go, but we stayed and played the legends courses in May. I thought they were exceptional in every way.

  • Need info-The Inlet condos NMB

Just got back from North Myrtle Beach. Still looked the same to me give or take a few new large condos. Was not pleased with our rental. Was supposed to be oceanfront but was dirty, dusty, damp and the locks were broken on the door. Totally unsafe and we were given a two bedroom across the street and a free night. It was ok but I had my heart set on oceanfront.

We (my mom 71 years old and I) walked three hours on the beach one mid morning. It was quiet and not to many people at all. You can%26#39;t find the big shells like you used to years ago. Where did they all go. I found some small ones as I walked along.

I fell in love with the Inlet area with the Marsh and Island. The water there is more blue green and I loved the sand dunes you can walk out on some mornings. It was so peaceful and sweet there.

Was that a WV logo I saw on one of the Inlet condo%26#39;s? Would love to rent one of them next time around. Would have to be oceanfront tho? I personally have to have a balcony to set out on and enjoy

the sound of the ocean and watch the waves.

I also like the almost end area with the condos %26#39;cream colored%26#39; beside the Inlet brown condos. Can anyone tell me what the name of them are as well, I don%26#39;t remember the name of them. Can anyone tell me if they stay at the Inlet condos and how are the units and do you like it?

I appreciate the info very much. Thanks?

Somebody posted a while back that they live year round on the inlet. Maybe they can help you.

    Need info-The Inlet condos NMB

Pop, thanks for all the information. I will search out those sites. I think I am talking about Inlet Point from what I have looked up myself now.

Must be nice to be able to live there year around. Dreaming here, will settle for vacationing there a couple times a year. Taking mom again, sister-in-law and daughter/grandson next time.

    Thanks again.

Growing up, our family would get together with aunts, uncles and cousins for big beach trip. Back then Cherry Grove and NMB was mostly houses with very few motel/hotel/condos.

One of the last big family trips I was a part of was in late 60%26#39;s. We had the last house at the end where Inlet Pointe is today. Last 100-200 yards of oceanfront was wide open without a single house. If I remember right there were only two houses at the end on second row. The one we had and another one maybe 50 yards south.

The rows of channels and channel houses hadn%26#39;t been developed yet. Cousin And I spent as much time in the ';marsh'; as out in the ocean. We called it crabbing. At low tide we would see how far out into the mud we could get without getting stuck..

Twenty years ago we put together a trip with two other families. Went in together for a house around the 45th block. Had a great time but I just couldn%26#39;t get used to the drive in and out. No matter how organized we tried to be, we were constantly going out for groceries.

Now that it%26#39;s usually wife, kids and grandkids we try to stay as close to stoplight as possible. Yeah it%26#39;s not as quiet but we love the convenience of walking to meals, beach shops and groceries. We%26#39;ve gone as long as 3-4 days without moving car.

    Pop,

I went to those web sites and checked out the rentals for the Inlet and yes, it was helpful and was the info I was looking for. Also, thank you for the family story. I loved it. I bet all the changes to the Inlet made you sad. We never forget our youthful days and all the fun they held.

As mom and I walked the beach this time, and I went on about how much I loved the Inlet, she told me how my dad (passed now) also years ago loved the Marsh and crabbing at the Inlet. Once, him and my uncle were fishing there. Dad had his pole in a holder near the channel but still close to the ocean at low tide. Suddenly something big jerked his line and yanked his favorite pole right out of the holder and dragged it into the ocean. When dad and my uncle didn%26#39;t come home for dinner, mom and my aunt got worried and went to look for them. My dad and uncle were out in the ocean at the Inlet looking for his pole. It must have been an awful large fish or perhaps a sand shark that pulled that pole out of the holder. It is a wonder you never heard the story in your lifetime since my dad worked for the Daily Mail Newspaper in Charleston back in the 50%26#39;s 60%26#39;s and part of the 70%26#39;s.

I can understand your family staying near all the activity. We took a couple of boxes of food with us so we wouldn%26#39;t have to travel to the store much. We wondered out of NMB to visit my mother%26#39;s neice at Surfside one day and ate at Chick-fil-A one day. We stopped in Walmart and picked up our nightly habit, %26#39;icecream%26#39; :-) I guess it would be nice to be able to walk to places to eat and the light is right across from the store. That would work. Oh but I would miss the Inlet. Do you miss staying at the end? Only thing is, I would be afraid to get stuck at the Inlet if a bad storm came but determined to stay at the end next time. Just love it there!

How crowded is Fall Bike Week?

We have reservations at the Avista in North Myrtle Beach for October 4 through 8th. I see that that is the same time as a Fall Bike Week. How crowded will it be there then? My husband and I are traveling with two 13 year old girls. Should we look elsewhere?

How crowded is Fall Bike Week?

Most of the biker%26#39;s will be in Myrtle Beach or south of Myrtle....20 miles away or more. You won%26#39;t know they are there.

How crowded is Fall Bike Week?

We have been in MB 2x during the fall bike week. It really is no problem, especially if you are in the north end.....

People that have stayed at Dunes Village......

For everyone that has stayed at dunes village I have a couple of questions. My husband and I and our five year old will be going to myrtle beach for the first time in october---the second week. I have decided by all the different posts to book at dunes village, but before I do I need to know from all of you what floor would you stay on to get the best view of the beach and ocean?? I read on another thread that the balconies on the seventh floor and below are different from the upper ones that you can%26#39;t see the beach and ocean. My husband does%26#39;t want to stay way up high but then again we want to make sure to get a good view. I am planning on booking a one bedroom oceanfront suite which will be plenty for us three. Also because we are coming in october I wanted you all to tell me about the waterpark. Is the water warm or do you think it will be for october??? Tell me a little also about the parking---you can unload in front of the dunes village right?? I would appreciate any help as I am getting ready to book and I want to make sure that I ask for the right room.

    Thanks for all your help.

People that have stayed at Dunes Village......

I just came back from the Dunes Village. I was there last week.

We had a 2 bedroom condo on the 10th floor. We loved the view, and didn%26#39;t think it was too high at all. There%26#39;s a total of 13 floors (goes up to the 14th floor, but they don%26#39;t have a ';13';, so the ';13'; gets skipped). Some family members of mine had a 1-bedroom on the 5th floor and they loved it. The condos on the end are especially nice because you get full windows in front, and on the side of you...so as soon as you walk in...bam...the ocean scenery surrounds you. Our 2-bedroom and my relatives 1-bedroom were luckily both on the ends, so it was great for all of us!

The 7th floor does indeed have a large privacy wall, so you cannot see the beach. I would definitely try to avoid the 7th floor, and maybe the 8th, since you would be too close to the roof top of the first 6 floors below you. (The first 6 floors %26#39;jut%26#39; out and therefore, has a roof top, and then the remaining above floors are a few feet back).

The waterpark was great (although I didn%26#39;t swim in the pools). The kids were having a blast though.

There is a parking garage across the street....there%26#39;s 6 floors of parking, but only 3 were filled. I guess when the 2nd Dunes Village Tower is finished being built, all 6 levels will eventually be full. You can unload in front of the building, but there is so few parking spaces in front, it%26#39;s tough to find a spot. We were lucky with loading and unloading...we happened to get there at the right time and parked along the curb in front of the hotel. I would think in October it wouldn%26#39;t be as crowded as July, so you should be fine.

All in all, we loved the hotel. It was gorgeous inside, and we loved the view. It was probably the best hotel I%26#39;ve ever stayed in my whole life. We would go back to this hotel in a heart-beat. I loved the section of Myrtle Beach we were in too...the beaches weren%26#39;t too crowded, and it was in a lovely area.

The only problem we had was during check-in. Check-in-time is at 3:00...we got there at 2:30-ish, but had to wait for the room to be finished being cleaned, and approved by the supervisor. It wasn%26#39;t finished until close to 3:30, so they were late with their guaranteed 3:00 time. I%26#39;m glad I didn%26#39;t get there any earlier...else we would have been waiting for a very long time. I guess you could go to the beach or pool while waiting if you so desired. We didn%26#39;t because it was rainy that day.

People that have stayed at Dunes Village......

I stayed here the end of May with my extended family. Absolutley loved this hotel! Stayed on the 11th floor in a 4 bedroom unit. The rooms are georgous, clean and well appointed.Like other posters have stated parking is across the street but you can load and unload in front of hotel.Had a great view from 11th floor but the overprotective mom I am, I was worried with my 2 young kids(5 and 2 yr old boys) and how high up we were. The indoor waterpark will be great for your 5 yr old. It was very warm and will be an advantage since your going in October. You made the right choice, Myrtle beach is our favorite vacation destination, and this hotel is top notch. If your looking for something fun to do with your 5 yr old, try the Dixie Stampede. This is a great dinner show with good food and live animals.Even my 2 yr old sat through the whole show, lots of fun. If you go to the front desk at Dunes they can give you a discounted rate for the tickets. Enjoy your trip, you won%26#39;t be dissapointed!

I am actually staying at the Dunes Village Resort this week. We have a 1-bedroom on the 5th floor. The resort is lovely. New and clean.

The indoor water park is small, but very nice. Water is warm. It isn%26#39;t actually enclosed right now, but it looks like they could put glass in the open areas very easily so maybe they do that when the weather gets colder. Perfect for small children.

The only negative things I could say are that the beds are very hard and there is a lack of information available. There is a cafe on site, but no menu available in the room. I requested 3rd or 4th floor when I made my reservation. When I got here, they tried to put us on the 12th floor. They told me my request was not noted on the reservation. Any special requests when registering seem to be ignored. They say they can request it, but not guarantee. We were used to staying at a different resort that would give us the exact room that we wanted if we knew the room number.

We also have a corner room and the view is perfect. If you have a room on the side, you could be looking at the Beach Colony Resort on the North side or the new construction on the South side.

I%26#39;d still recommend it, but I hope they make some changes.

    Dunes Village construction

Just reserved a 4 bdrm condo for the second week of October at Dunes Village but now I am having some doubts about my choice.

Does anyone know if the construction on the new tower will be complete by then or will we have to listen to construction noise all week? Did this once at Compass Cove and it was a miserable week to say the least. For the price I am paying for October it had better be worth it! Thanks,

    GiraffeE

Hi, we booked the Dunes in December for the new tower, and I think they told us they would be finished in either October or November, so when you are there they should be almost finished.

    Enjoy your trip!

Thanks so much! Can%26#39;t wait to get there. You enjoy your vacation as well.

    House Rentals

Am interested in renting a 7 or 8 bedroom house, oceanfront, and possibly a pool. This will be for April 2008 and it%26#39;s for a family get together to celebrate a 50th birthday. I%26#39;ve never been to Myrtle Beach and any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    House Rentals

Not sure if this needs to be said but seeing ';never been to MB'; on the North Myrtle Beach board raises a red flag.

Not unusual for first time visitors to get City of North Myrtle Beach and City of Myrtle Beach confused. It%26#39;s not that big of deal when driving to attractions. They are close. Just need to be sure before you get there and go hunting for your address. We%26#39;ll worry about that later.

Some houses in Myrtle. Largest concentration of houses will be either North Myrtle or south of Myrtle in Surfside/Garden City areas. Here are three of the larger realtors in NMB.

    www.century21thomas.com/book/query.html

    grandstrandvacations.com/book/query.html

Not to sure about swimming pools. Yes they have them but unless it%26#39;s heated, might not be that important in April.

Many posibilities depending on budget. Two top of the line units would be Aces Wild or Seaclusion on Elliott Realty site.

Little lower budget would be a duplex with two or three small units in one house.

    House Rentals

Thanks so much. I%26#39;m very excited about this trip!

  • Dinner at Middleton Place

How is the MIddleton Place restaurant for dinner? We were not planning on touring the plantation but thought it might be fun to have dinner there. If you have dinner there you can tour the gardens free of charge. Does anyone know the price range of dinner?

We are interested in eating somewhere that is unique to the area of Charleston (we are from Michigan). I am not necessarily looking for 5 star food (we have Chicago close by for fine dining). I am more interested in local flavor.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

Also are downtown shops open on Sundays?

    Dinner at Middleton Place

We ate at the Middleton Planation on our trip last March and enjoyed it very much. We arrived early and were able to walk the gardens free of charge, which was a very nice treat. Hardly anyone else there (though we were in town the week before Spring Break). Dinner was lovely. We had a table that overlooked one of the ponds in the gardens and were able to watch different animals coming an going (I was specifically watching for alligators since we had already seen two in the reflecting ponds).

Services was excellent. We were one of four tables that night, though we did have an early reservation and the place did get more crowded by the time we left.

Food was very good. For the two of us we probably spent $70-80 but that included soup, dinner, 2 drinks each and dessert. I had a duck dish with a sauce that was excellent! Check out the plantation website-they have a link to them menu that will help you decide if you would like to go there.

I would definitely recommend is as nice place outside of town to eat.

Other local treats-we loved Poogans Porch, 82 Queen, McCradys and Carolinas. Actually, we really never had a bad meal on the entire trip.

Have a wonderful trip! I wish we were going again soon!

    Dinner at Middleton Place

I ate dinner there in a weekend package deal with lodging. We ate on the back porch and the meal was good. I enjoyed my entire stay at Middleton Place.

Thank you for your comments. I made a reservation. We will be celebrating my mother%26#39;s 73 birthday. I think she will enjoy the surroundings.

    Chicken wings

whos got the best chicken hot wings?

    Chicken wings

I really enjoyed Fat Jack%26#39;s Wings and Things in Surfside. Nice hometown kind of pub and eatery. Awesome hot wings!

Even better, if you don%26#39;t like smoke from cigarettes they have the coolest fans on the ceiling. They kind of look like tires but they eat (filter) the smoke! I hate smoke from cigarettes and while I was there people were smoking but I never knew it.

The people are nice, the beer is cold and the wings are great!

My favorite wings are at Jimmigan%26#39;s Sports Bar. The one on about 70th Ave.

Also.. .Hot Wings Express at about 30th And Kings has some damn good wings... I like their %26#39;special%26#39; sauces like the Spicy Italian or Parm Garlic over their %26#39;hot%26#39; buffalo sauce as it%26#39;s more watery than say the ones at Jimmigans.

I like the ones at Wild Wings also. I ate at the one in Surfside/Garden City though.

High tide down at the toe?

I have been told that at high tide, the beach vanishes down near the toe. I have stayed in Sea Pines often, but never down that far. Does anyone know if this is true? Obviously as it makes the turn, things change. But before the turn? If so, at about what street does this begin, if anyone knows?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

High tide down at the toe?

The toe as you call it is called Lands End in Sea Pines and is near the South Beach Marina.

It is the point where the Atlantic meets the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW).

The ICW does not have a beach area there, and is somewhat rocky. The area on the Atlantic was the terminus of the recent beach renourishment. It should be fine.

    Boutique Hotel in Columbia?

Looking for charming or very contemporary accommodations in Columbia. Would prefer the inn/hotel to have a pool. During my searches, I ran across Claussens Inn, but the reviews indicated bad plumbing, poor service and shoddy upkeep. Any other suggestions?

    Boutique Hotel in Columbia?

The nicest hotel we have in Columbia is the Marriott downtown. They have an indoor pool. The Inn at USC is a nice hotel, but I don%26#39;t think they have a pool, and it does not have a lounge/restaurant on site.

    Boutique Hotel in Columbia?

The new Hilton is a very good place to stay. I wouldn%26#39;t call it ';very contemporary'; but it does have some charm to it. I know it has a pool.

People love the Hampton Inn on Gervais St., which is actually the #1 ranked hotel in Columbia on Trip Advisor. It also has a pool.

The Inn at USC has a whole lot of charm (it was built around a historic house and another building, and the historic house contains two or three luxury suites now), but the previous poster is correct -- no pool. You can, however, use USC%26#39;s pool at the Wellness Center, which is AMAZING - %26lt;http://campusrec.sc.edu/WFC/default.html%26gt;. To learn more, visit www.innatusc.com.

You may want to try the Whitney Hotel. It is an older hotel undergoing rennovations in a residential neighborhood. Each room includes a kitchen and a sitting/den area. It has a pool. While it is not fancy, it is very nice. My relatives stay there %26amp; they are quite happy with it each time. Also, an excellent breakfast.

I booked a dinner cruise for several of us last week. It was WONDERFUL! They were so nice in assisting me with reservations and everyone loved the evening. The food was great! Even the picky eaters were impressed!

The She-Crab Soup was so good. You get your choice of entrees from about six offered. The Shrimp %26amp; Grits is a bit spicy but very good with big shrimp. The Crab Cakes were also especially good. Nobody was disappointed in their selections.

    Thanks for the review.

We have never done this, but I have thought it would be a nice activity when our extended family comes for a visit. (Yes, there are a few ';picky eaters';.)

Do all tables have a view? Any advice on how to reserve?

    Dinner Cruise

When we went this time, all the tables were set up with a view. I have gone several times before with large private parties and some tables in the middle of the room did not have a view. During the winter months, the view is limited because they board at 6:30 P.M., and sail at 7:00 P.M., but the night view of the Charleston skyline is still spectacular! If you want a table next to a window you might ask when making the reservation (they are SO nice!) or get there early and be ready to board as soon as they open for boarding.

Most of the music was what we call ';beach music'; for shagging (our state dance) and some slow things. Think Jimmy Buffett and 50s %26amp; 60s music. There were quite a few people dancing.

I will check around for restaurants with dance floors but cannot think of any off the top of my head. Occasionally some group or place will advertise some event on the radio with dancing.

    Thanks for the information.

It seems like it just may be worth the extra cost.

    I%26#39;m ready to book-it.......

    Bon Voyage!

What is the attire? Is it casual?

For men - khaki slacks and open collar shirt

For ladies - nice slacks or casual dress - take a jacket or wrap even in warm weather beacause the air sometimes can get chilly.

    Hi,

Has anyone stayed at the Hilton Head Villas at Folly Field ? I would love to hear if you were pleased or not with the facility.

Hilton Head Villas at Folly Field

We have stayed at the HHBTC on Folly Beach. The places are older there and a little small but were clean. The area was okay but not as nice as PD,s beach area.

    MB in July versus Augsut

We are still going through Myrtle Beach withdrawal after our wonderful 10 day vacation 8/19-29 : ) With that being said, we are already talking about our next trip in summer 08. We have gone in mid-late August the last 3 years, but are thinking about trying next July.

Can anyone offer advice on what I can expect if we try July as opposed to August? I figure there may be be more crowds, but is it really that much worse? I am expecting the rates for hotels, condos, etc to be higher, but I am more concerned with restaurants and activities. We have always been lucky and gone out to eat fairly early and never really had to wait long, but have seen the lines on our way out!

Are the rates for shows and other activities higher in August? Are the beaches much more crowded than in August? We stay in the northern end of Myrtle (Ocean Reef, Sea Watch, Dunes Village) and would be returning to that area or perhaps North Myrtle Beach.

    Thanks for the info!

    MB in July versus Augsut

Sorry, that%26#39;s AUGUST. Should have spellchecked : )

    MB in July versus Augsut

Most schools in the south (as well as colleges) have already started by the time you usually vacation in Myrtle Beach in August. In July, there will be more people doing their family vacations and plenty more teenagers and college age young people.

There are a couple things to consider.

First, the crowds. June is really the biggest month for Myrtle beach as the temperatures tend to hover at or above 90 degrees during the peak of the day for much of July which actually tends to scare off a few travelers.

That being said, it will be significantly busier especially on the weekends. You%26#39;ll notice it most at water parks, shows, and restaurants. It%26#39;s not too difficult to work around this though. Simply make reservations when planning dinner during peak hours (especially Friday, Saturday and Sunday) as most restaurants will accept them. You%26#39;ll also want to show up a bit early for any shows you plan to attend to avoid the lines and possibly set up any water park trips for weekdays.

Staying in the North Myrtle area or NMB itself is essential in July or August. You%26#39;ll notice a great deal of congestion in the area near the center of town (where the Pavilion used to be) as teenagers frequent this area heavily during the summer. There is also a Myrtle Beach tradition of ';lining up on the strip'; during summer nights. Teenagers basically line up in their cars on Ocean Blvd starting at around 8 PM and drive slowly by mingling with people and just having a grand ol time. Usually, this takes place from the strip in the neighborhood of 3rd Ave North all the way up to as far as 24th Ave North. This makes Ocean Blvd all but impassable at night so take note of this on a July trip and avoid hotels near this area and any traveling to the south side of town should be done on Highway 17 (or the bypass if possible).

Other than that you shouldn%26#39;t have too many problems. Traffic does get hectic but staying in NMB or the north end of Myrtle allows you to cut over to the Bypass to see Broadway at the Beach or visit the south end of town to avoid some of the traffic whenever possible. The beaches on the north end of town and NMB won%26#39;t get too crowded even in peak season.

Also, be sure to avoid any major activity weeks. I believe the summer Bike Weeks and the Sun Fun Festival fall in May-June but you%26#39;ll want to check the calendar to be sure. The 4th of July week also tends to get pretty hectic so you may want to avoid it if possible.

    Landmark hotel M/B

We have booked into this hotel in early Oct%26#39;, but, after reading such mixed reviews, we%26#39;re a little confused. Do you think we%26#39;re making a mistake, or there%26#39;s nothing to worry about?

    Landmark hotel M/B

Hi, my family has stayed at the Landmark for the past few years and we have loved it. The pool area is probably one of the largest in Myrtle Beach. I would say there is nothing to worry about. Enjoy your trip!

    Landmark hotel M/B

Depends on how fussy you are. We have stayed at the Landmark several times and it serves our needs at a very reasonable price. Many of the rooms have been refurbished but not all, so you may want to ask about yours. Yes, the indoor pool area is extensive but it is overdue for a facelift...not a problem if you can overlook cosmetics...never bothered me but I can see where fussy folks would have complaints.

    Streaks09 %26amp;daddio361,

Thanks so much for your replies. You%26#39;ve really confirmed what we were thinking, mainly that we would stay here, enjoy it and bring back some great memories.

Only 3 weeks to go, can%26#39;t wait. Thanks again.

    Sat. 2:00 - Tuesday 4:00 - Charleston to Savannah + back

Not much time to see the sites.

My hubby and I will be getting into Charleston later this month on a Saturday afternoon and coming home on Tuesday late afternoon. We would like to see as much as we can see from Charleston to Savannah and back.

My thoughts were this: Spend Saturday afternoon, evening in Charleston (need accomodation recos - Charleston or close island)

Sunday - spend a.m. exploring an island or two around Charleston and start out for Beauford and surrounding areas. Stay in that area Sunday night (need accomodation recos)

Monday morning - start off for Savannah area and staying in that area Monday night (need accomodation recos)

Tuesday a.m. - start back to Charleston stopping along the way to get our last sites in.

Just doesn%26#39;t seem like a lot of time, but we are considering retiring to South Carolina within the next few years and want to get a feel for the area.

Any suggestions on places to stay, places to eat, or the ultimate advice as to how we should ';map'; this whole thing out - would be more than appreciated. I%26#39;ve been going nuts trying to figure it all out since we%26#39;re not at all familar with the area.

We are not really interested in seeing the ';tourist'; attractions this trip - just want to get a lay of the land.

    Sat. 2:00 - Tuesday 4:00 - Charleston to Savannah + back

Have you thought about Bluffton? It%26#39;s getting to be a suburb of Hilton Head, but is still more of the small town feel.

There%26#39;s not much to see between Charleston and Savannah except Bluffton, and Beaufort (pronounced BEW-F%26#39;rt) unless you are going upscale to somewhere like Fripp Island. There is also a Sun City retirement community near Hilton Head.

If you are just interested in how the places look, you could easily spend Sunday night in Charleston, drive through Beaufort or Bluffton for a good look around on your way to Savannah, (both are small) Plan on staying in Savannah on Sunday night, and catch the other place on your way back to Charleston.

I don%26#39;t know about Charleston, but Savannah has a multitude of retirement areas. The two cities are like two cousins, a lot of similar things, but a BIG difference in personalities.

No, I%26#39;ve never stayed there, but some of our friends from up north have, and I%26#39;ve been able to check out some of the units.

I also think the property manager Reba is pretty good.

We travel to HH every year for the week between Christmas and New Year. I pack long sleeves for the day time and a jacket for the evenings. My husband even packs shorts for warmer days.

Golf is a biggie for most people. You will also see others taking long walks or riding bikes. The tennis courts also get a work out. This is the last busy week for the island. After this week, owners start making repairs and improvements to rental property for the next season.

It is easy to take a day trip to Savannah or Beaufort Hope you enjoy the trip

Thanks volfrmtn..I have never used this forum before and am finding it quite helpful. I now know what to expect with the temps ..or sort of..coming from south Fla. ,it will be cool to us. But, we can layer and take things off if it gets warm. Sounds like we will have a great time..can%26#39;t wait!

    Between Charleston and Pawleys Island?

There is a 70-mile stretch of shore between Charleston and Pawleys Island that I%26#39;ve never explored, and it intrigues me.

Anything cool to explore? Any little oceanfront motels that are worth checking out? Sightseeing?

This can include Georgetown and Pawleys, as I am fairly unfamiliar with those areas.

    Between Charleston and Pawleys Island?

    Any takers on this? :)

    Between Charleston and Pawleys Island?

I came across the area several times. But: There are no villages and hardly any roads, except Hwy 17. The only little town east of it is McClellanville, it sits on the Intracoastal. On the other (ocean oriented) side of the ICW are tidal creeks and small unpopulated islands. Some belong to Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Several of the islands have beaches, but I think most of them are accessible by boat only. It sure is a beautiful area, yet completely undeveloped. Which is nice, IMO.

There is a Sea View Inn on Pawleys Island and you can sure find several hotels/ motels in Georgetown, although not ocean front.

Thanks Mutze. I did come across Sea View Inn in my search and thought it looked interesting. I will also check out McClellanville.

    help planing charleston /savannah vacation

I don%26#39;t know about the sights you listed, but historic Charleston is a must. Charleston is a walking city, and that is also the best way to appreciate all the wonderful things it has to offer. If you just wanted to do historic downtown (and not any of the plantations - they could take a full day by themselves) I would give yourself two to three days. Stop by the visitors center and they will give you a map. I would just start walking visiting all the places marked along the way. The mansions are a must, as well as a carriage ride, a ghost tour at night, the provost and battery park. Three days would be a quick once over, but to really appreciate all the city has to offer, I would spend most of your time here. Regardless as to how many days you spend there, you will absolutely enjoy it. In March, the weather will be perfect for walking around the city!

    help planing charleston /savannah vacation

Plan on two hours for Fort Sumter; its a 20-30 minute ferry ride each way; then you have roughly an hour to explore. I%26#39;m not a huge war historian but my daughter, who had just studied about Ft. Sumter in class, requested we do the tour. It was pretty cool!

When planning keep in mind: March is usually a slower month. Easter comes early next year. Plan accordingly. If you are interested in renting a home or villa on one of the islands, I suggest you contact owners now. You%26#39;d be surprised how many families visit during Easter holiday.

Out of the ones you have listed I believe Compass Cove will have the best indoor pools for small kids in Oct.

I recommend the Pinnacle Oceanfront Suite. It has recently been updated.

Hilton Head in September with kids...little ones!!

We%26#39;re planning a last minute get away to Hilton Head at the end of this month with two very little kids... 3 and 9 months. It%26#39;s important to us that we%26#39;re conveniently located to the beach and have access to a children%26#39;s pool. Sea Pines looks beautiful with lots to do (unsure how much is for kids this little) and Seacrest has also been recommended to us. Any insight or additional recommendations for accommodations?

Hilton Head in September with kids...little ones!!

I have been traveling to HHI for 17 years and our daughter was 10 months the first time we went. I highly recommend you stay ON THE BEACH! sea Pines is not my favorite for that reason. We love to stay in the North Forest Beach/south FB area- namely Shorewood, or Ocean One. Both of these complexes have first floor walk out condos so you are walking out of your condo onto a grassey area before the beach- no stairs involved. Perfect for nap breaks or potty breaks for the older one!

Ocean One does have elevators if you get a higher level. Also, we like beach front in Palmetto Dunes. Hope that helps. Also- if you stay in the SFB area you will be able to put the kids in a stroller and walk to coligny plaza where there are a ton of dining and shopping optiions. In Sea Pines you%26#39;ll be loading them in the car- for the most part. There aren%26#39;t too many kid friendly restaurants in Sea Pines other than the Salty Dog which is pub food.

Hilton Head in September with kids...little ones!!

SeaCrest is a good choice. It is right across from Coligny Plaza with it%26#39;s shopping and restaurants.

In Palmetto Dunes, the two you might like best are Captains Walk or VillaMare. Captains Walk does have a kiddies pool. There will be a lot of owners around the last week of September, as we have our annual meeting on September 28th.

SeaPines as stated is not the best option, since most of the villas are not oceanfront.

    Stan (hhiguy)

Isn%26#39;t the Marriott Monarch in Sea Pines Ocean front?

My understanding is that they have kiddie pools too.

The Marriott Monarch is Oceanfront, but it is a Timeshare property. While it is possible that d8486 could get a reservation there, the priority is to Marriott owners, Marriott exchanges, II exchanges, and then outsiders.

Hello, really just wanted to submit this post for Hilton Head residents, but my husband and I just got married on the Island in June. Our photographer, Torrey Downs (www.miraphotosc.com) who did a completely amazing job, got one of our photos published in Septembers Hilton Head Monthly! Check it out if you are in the area and can get the magazine. It%26#39;s on 2 pages, 76 %26amp; 77. And yes, that sandcastle just happened to be on the beach, what a great prop! If you go to Torrey%26#39;s website, we are actually the featured wedding on her website now also!

Just wanted to share, it%26#39;s exciting to be in a magazine:)

    Hilton Head Monthly

Congratulations on your wedding! I think Hilton Head is a fabulous place to get married at. I do have a couple questions...did you get married on the beach, where did you hold your reception at or did you have it caterered? Hotel or house rental for your guests and depending on where you held your reception, how many guest did you invite? Thanks!

Beautiful pictures. You made a lovely bride.

    Hi Scrap Happy,

We had our reception at the Crowne Plaza in Shipyard, and the wedding was on the beach, right outside of the Crowne Plaza property. We had 90 people there (all from out of town since we live in Ohio!) I did not have it catered, we went the easy route and did everything thru the hotel, but the CP did a great job. We had brunch there on Sunday as well which was delicious. Dinner was great too, we had a buffett line set up but the chefs from the CP restaurant were outside grilling everyones steaks and swordfish for them. It was really perfect, no complaints! My mom does wish that they would have rented a beach house where they would have stayed, to be able to have more of a pre party the day of the wedding there and more room to get ready, and we also probably would have done the brunch there afterwards. But it was definitely easier to not have to deal w/ catering! Email me if you need more info on any of the hotels. I have the contacts at the CP I can get you in touch with, as well as some of my other vendors used.

    Good Luck!

Need Help Finding Casual Beach Bars/Restaurants

I am going to MB Oct. 3rd thru 7th with eight guys that love to hang out at true beach bars and restaurants. Does anyone know of any cool places where we could have some great seafood while being right on the beach? Also, we are looking for beach bars...maybe a place that is right on the beach. We do not want any strip mall bars/restaurants and we know about Broadway on the Beach. We want the beach feel...

    Your help is appreciated.

Need Help Finding Casual Beach Bars/Restaurants

Hi, not sure where you are staying, but last year we went to a place called CreekRatz. Although not located on the ocean it offered some great views of the marsh and MB itself. We only had appetizers, but they were good with the cold beer. In the back were tables and a small bar where you can sit. We also went to dinner at the Devine Fish house (also Murrel%26#39;s Inlet) and sat outside on the deck area. The food and service were awesome. Have a great time, October is a great time...not very many crowds.

Need Help Finding Casual Beach Bars/Restaurants

We live in SC and go 2-3 times every season. The BEST restaurants - hands down- are the Divine dining group. It includes: River City - in murrells inlet and in Garden City by the pier. They have burgers...the best ever. Wahoo%26#39;s - murrels inlet - seafood. BOVINE%26#39;s - murrells inlet. THE BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD. wood-fired. great steaks, seafood, great drinks. Ultimate California Pizza. Last but definitely not least. Bubba%26#39;s Fish Shack. You can%26#39;t go wrong. They have great fish, shrimp baskets. I love the crab cake sandwich. It also has the best little quaint atmosphere. Swings on the porch and check out the pulley fan system and the boats hanging from the ceiling. You cannot miss the ';Divine'; group. We make sure to go to one of these every night while we are there...and that%26#39;s every couple of months for years on end.

I%26#39;m a SC girl who goes to the beach as often as possible, so I understand what you%26#39;re looking for! Murrell%26#39;s Inlet is a good call, but it can be a bit of a drive if you%26#39;re staying on the north end of MB. However, the food and views there can%26#39;t be beat.

It%26#39;s not right on the water, but Bimini%26#39;s is one of my favorite casual beach bar/restaurants in MB. It%26#39;s the kind of place I can go into with a tank top over my bathing suit, shorts, and flip fliops after a day at the beach. The steamed oysters are fantastic -- the other seafood is not gourmet at all, but it%26#39;s fresh and good for a bar-type setting. It%26#39;s a local hang out that%26#39;s laid back -- picnic tables for diners. There are GREAT happy hour specials (1/2 price oysters, cheap drinks).

If you%26#39;re looking for upscale food and gorgeous views as the main event, go to Murrell%26#39;s Inlet. If you want a very casual setting where you can have some seafood along with some beers/drinks, you might like Bimini%26#39;s.

The only negative I can say about Bimini%26#39;s is sometimes it can be smoky inside. I%26#39;m OK with that, even though I don%26#39;t smoke. If it bothers you, there are seats outside.

    Here%26#39;s a website - http://www.biminisoysterbar.com/

I just thought of one of my favorite bars on the ocean -- Ocean Annie%26#39;s. It%26#39;s north in Myrtle Beach (part of a hotel -- don%26#39;t stay at that hotel, btw, as it%26#39;s horrid).

The bar is outdoor, so it can%26#39;t stay open real late due to potential noise violations for neighbors. But it%26#39;s a GREAT place to start your night out. Lots of fun, active social scene, etc. It%26#39;s especially fun on Friday and Saturday nights. Sometimes weekdays are happening, too.

Here%26#39;s a website with more info on it:

    sandsresorts.com/facilities/restaurants.php

Depends on where you are staying. In North Myrtle (Cherry Grove), Harold%26#39;s on the Beach is very casual, right on the beach (drink, but don%26#39;t eat). A couple blocks off the beach is Duffy Street Seafood Shack, very casual, but excellent seafood (not directly on the beach). May want to take a short ride up to Little River (on the intracoastal). Crabcatchers and a few other bar/restaurants on the water, by the fishing boats.

i like Bummz Beach Cafe next door to the Camelot Resort...open and airy with a nice view of the beach. you can either sit inside or out on the tables. but as i am a barfly who prefers holes in the wall, my favorite place is a little gem called the Gathering Spot, or, the ';G-Spot';...cheap beer, good wings, lots of locals and a cool outside deck that overlooks the family kingdom amusement park...its on yaupon drive and you%26#39;ll miss it if you blink. also plenty of good hotel bars with great ocean views like the new marriott on the north end, crown reef and the beach bar above the pool at the Long Bay....enjoy!

All of these places are on the beach and should fill the bill. Some will be better than others, but eitehr way you should enjoy the beach, the ocean, seafood and drinks!

    Enjoy!

    Trip Report

We just got back yesterday %26amp; had a great trip. We were worried that the weather would be terrible all week (based on weather channel) but it was hot %26amp; sunny almost all week.

Stayed at Surfside in a condo for the first time %26amp; loved the area. The places on both sides of ocean drive were refreshingly tidy. We didn%26#39;t see as many ';eyesores'; as we often do in MB %26amp; NMB.

We walked about an hour each morning %26amp; then spent most days relaxing on the beach. Most evenings we went out for dinner %26amp; stopped at a few shops. Lazy Gator in MI was fun to look around in. We went to Tangier Outlet on one rainy afternoon. Walked around Broadway at the Beach one evening %26amp; Barefoot Landing another. Carolina Winery at Barefoot is a cute place with wine tasting. For $2 you can taste 7 wines %26amp; for an extra $1 you keep the logo glass. Pretty good deal for $3.

Once again, we relied on Trip Advisor reviews to pick our restaurants %26amp; were very happy with our choices.

E Noodles in NMB is our new favorite place! We always try to avoid ';repeats'; (too many great places to try) but loved it so much that we decided to go back. Unfortunately, we chose the MB location the 2nd time, since it was closer. The food was still great, but the atmosphere was unwelcoming, to say the least. Felt like we were intruding. The north location, on the other hand, had wonderful service %26amp; couldn%26#39;t do enough to make sure you were taken care of. The served a complimentary soup while waiting for our food. Prices are very reasonable.

Crystalite Cafe is an adorable little place. The outside doesn%26#39;t look like much, so don%26#39;t let it fool you. We would have passed by without a 2nd glance if not for Trip Advisor. We had breakfast there, but the lunch menu %26amp; desserts looked so good that we wished we had done that instead.

Also had breakfast at Nibils. It%26#39;s a very friendly little place. Also reasonable prices.

Used our restaurant.com $25 certificate at Luigis. It was delicious. My husband had a mixed seafood entree that he said is the best meal ever. Everything tasted homemade %26amp; authentic Italian. I%26#39;m not sure why they chose the open kitchen concept in such a small place. It was noisy %26amp; chaotic, so don%26#39;t plan on a quiet relaxing meal inside. We would choose outdoor dining next time, but will definitely return.

Bubba%26#39;s Fish Shack in Surfside was ok. It was good, but we felt the prices were high for such basic food.

Drunken Jack%26#39;s is one of our favorites. It gets mixed reviews but we%26#39;ve been going for about 10 years %26amp; still love it. The filet mignon was delicious %26amp; of course, the hush puppies are addictive.

Another great week at the beach...it%26#39;s always so sad when it%26#39;s time to leave.

    Trip Report

Hey, so glad to hear you had a great week. I was wondering how the weather was going to be. Super report! I%26#39;m glad youhad a chance to try Crystalite Cafe. We really like it as well. We almost went to Luigi%26#39;s but didn%26#39;t have a chance. So I had to return my certificate when I got home and they pleasantly gave me a $25 credit to my account. Restaurant.com is so great to work with.

We also missed NIbils. What was it like? I%26#39;ve always wanted to go there but it just never pans out. Also, what kind of restaurant is E Noodles? I%26#39;ve never heard about it.

Glad you%26#39;re back safe and sound and had a good trip.

    Ron

    Trip Report

Thanks for the E Noodles suggestion. I%26#39;m always on the lookout for good noodles. I found the website: enoodlesmb.com.

Great report. Thanks for the restaurant info. I have written down others but always end up losing my info. I love taking my morning and evening walks on the beach. You meet so many nice people too.

    Ron,

Nibils is just a friendly, basic restaurant at the pier. There are windows all along the ocean side so you have a great view. We just had breakfast, but as we were leaving, we saw their dinner special sign. Dinners such as scallops, shrimp, etc. (your choice) along with sides %26amp; a soft drink for $10.95. I%26#39;m sure it wouldn%26#39;t be particularly ';fancy'; food, but we were thinking it would be a good place to go when we have our grown sons %26amp; their girlfriends with us (aka, when we%26#39;re paying :) .

E Noodles is an Asian Bistro. Seems to be a mix of Thai, Japanese, Chinese, etc. Yummy! We really don%26#39;t like Chinese buffets, so it%26#39;s a real find for us.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

Great report ! Thanks for taking the time to write it up.

The open air kitchen at Luigi%26#39;s is a big mistake. The appearance of the cooks when we were there left lots to be desired.

Try Mayors House in Pawleys Island if you ever get to stay down South of Myrtle again.

    Airport Info

Hello! My parents are brand new residents of the Charleston area. My husband and I will be visiting them over the Christmas holiday. We have a lot of time off work that time of year and are planning on going on a vacation directly after Christmas before we return home to NYC. Our destination is yet to be determined (my husband is thinking Europe but I鈥檓 rather stuck on something tropical).

At any rate 鈥?I鈥檓 hoping someone can advise me what airports serve the Charleston area. Is there maybe a larger airport an hour鈥檚 drive away that might be best for me as I search for direct international flights and the best bargains?

    Thanks.

    Airport Info

Charleston (CHS) is the largest airport in the area. The closest airports of any size would be Savannah or Columbia and they are not ';close'; and not significantly larger. To get direct flights to Europe you%26#39;d have to go to Charlotte or Atlanta...Charlotte is 3 and a half hours away. Most major east coast carriers serve Charleston- it would be an easy international connection. Best wishes.

    Airport Info

That makes things very easy for me. Thanks for the information.

CHS is definitely your most convenient airport. Even if you have to use a connecting flight, you will probably want to start from CHS. Rather than driving to Charlotte, you might as well come back to NYC (there are frequent flights from CHS to both LGA and EWR), and start your vacation trip from home. You can often get vaery good round trip fares from New York to Charleston. Tickets to Europe and the Caribbean out of New York are usually cheaper, and you can avoid lugging your vacation gear to Charleston.

If you decide to head directly to Europe, United has a direct, same-day connection to London out of Charleston. You leave Charleston in the early am, change planes in DC, and arrive in London (Heathrow) in the evening. You can also connect to evening (overnight) flights to various European destinations, but many of those connections are through the NYC airports.

The US Airways flight to London with connections in Charlotte is quite easy.

    Must See!!

I will be in Charleston mid-December with an Elderhostel program which includes: a ';bus tour of the historic Charleston area, walking tour of historic homes, and a Charleston stage production (A Christmas Carol or A Ghost Story of Christmas)';. I%26#39;m a history buff and will have some free time. What are the ';must see'; things I should include? Also, what kind of weather (clothes) should I be prepared for? THANKS!

    Must See!!

The weather can be warm to cold that time of year. Dress in layers with a jacket and bring an umbrella.

You may wish to take a tour of some of the houses downtown. The Nathaniel Russell House and the Edmonston Alston House would be my top two picks.

The Old Provost and Exchange Building might be of interest. Be sure and see the dungeon in the basement.

If time permits, you can arrange for a trip to Middleton Place (plan on about 1/2 day) and take a house tour while you are there or take a boat ride to Ft. Sumter.

There is a free museum on the second floor of the library building at The Citadel. You actually enter it on the side of the building rather than going through the library. The student will be gone from campus and you may wish to confirm the times.

    Must See!!

    SCBlossom,

Thank you for these suggestions. I%26#39;m not sure how much free time I will have, but will add all these to my list for when I get my final schedule and can prioritize.

  • Looking for nice hotel for parents and two teenage boys

We are trying to plan a trip to Myrtle Beach for July 2008. We plan to be there for the 4th fo July. Can anyone suggest a nice OCEANFRONT hotel with a nice swimming pool and beach access. I would like to be somewhat close to the shops and dining. We will be driving from KY so we will have transportation. Our sons are 13 and 17 and they may end up bringing friends with them so we must be close to the water. Any suggestions????

Looking for nice hotel for parents and two teenage boys

We like Coral Beach. It has always been clean when we stayed there and we aint NEVER had a problem there. They have a bowling alley, arcade(with pool tables), 10 pools, store, restaurant, etc. For the adults they have a ocean front beach bar and a comedy club. They have poolside karoke some nights also. It may be every night but I aint sure.

    Here is there web address.

Hotel Holiday Inn ocean front surfside

Hi, does anyone know anything about this hotel,Hoilday Inn Ocean front surfside, at 1601 n. ocean blvd.

also where can you get a good steak.

    Thanks,

Hotel Holiday Inn ocean front surfside

I haven%26#39;t stayed at the H.Inn , Surfside, but I%26#39;ve seen the pool area and the outside. We usually stay about three blocks down at the Days Inn, Surfside. We love the laid-back atmosphere of Surfside. It%26#39;s a lot quieter-----and calmer. We like the Days Inn because there are several good (really good) restaurants within walking distance. Bubba%26#39;s Fish Shack (awesome ribs, catfish, chicken) in a dock type atmosphere, River City Burgers (great burgers and such), Nibils (a pier restaurant with awesome prime rib, shrimp---they serve a mean breakfast, too!) and Latitude 21 (more upscale, not exactly family oriented, but good food). There%26#39;s also a great little ice cream parlor there, but when we went last September, they were closed. Anyway, the Holiday Inn is only three or four blocks away, so all those eateries are close enough if you stay there.

Hotel Holiday Inn ocean front surfside

Sorry, I didn%26#39;t see the steak question. Nibils has good steak, but there%26#39;s also an excellent steakhouse called T-Bones about seven miles south on the main highway. It%26#39;s address is Murrells Inlet, I think, but it%26#39;s not on the inlet road, it%26#39;s out on the main highway that leads to Pawley%26#39;s Island. AWESOME steaks!!!!

We just stayed near that Holiday Inn last week %26amp; took a walk around the grounds %26amp; public buildings. It is a nice stretch of beach %26amp; has a great view of the ocean from the pool/patio area. Everything seemed clean but we didn%26#39;t see any rooms, so can%26#39;t comment on them.

There is just a plain pool, no lazy river or kiddie area (if that matters to you).

    Has anybody flown on Allegiant?

Looks like they have some really low cost flights out of Greenville.

    Has anybody flown on Allegiant?

I never have but kbow people who flew to disney when they had their 99 dollar special and they had no problems

    Has anybody flown on Allegiant?

I have flown on Allegiant, to St. Petersburg, and I liked it. The thing to remember is that in order to get the lowest fare, you have to book way in advance. I looked online one night and the fare was like $49 each way. The next day, one way had changed to like $89!

They were on time, the airplane was ok. We forgot a carry-on item on the airplane, and they were nice enough to ship it back to us on the next flight they had coming to Greenville.

Beware of the extra money you have to pay , though. It won%26#39;t just be fare plus taxes. You have to pay for each piece of baggage, and for seat selection.

For informational purposes, it looks like the additional fees are as follows:

Selecting seats at time of purchase, $11 per person per flight (each leg).

    1 Bag, $6

    2 Bags, $16

So, if 2 people are flying from GSP to Las Vegas and want to select seats when they book the flight. One person checks 1 bag, the other checks 2, fees are as follows:

Seat Selection, $11/flight/person for a total of $44

    Baggage, $16 for person A, $6 for person B, for a total of $22.

    Total seat selection/baggage fees: $66

I%26#39;ve flown Allegiant, though not out of Greenville. They are cheap but will nickel-and-dime you if you are not prepared for that. They offer no free beverages or pretzels, so take your own food and drink on board because theirs are pricey. Take a book too... no in-flight entertainment, but most are shorter flights anyway.

If you book your flight using any method other than standing at their ticket counter, they will charge you for the ';convenience'; of booking online or by phone. Keep in mind that their ticket counter is usually only open 2 hours before their flights, so you have to know when the flights are and when to show up if you want to book the tickets without paying a fee.

Also, you have to pay extra if you want to sit with other people in your party. Unless you have kids or are squeamish about the possibility of sitting next to strangers, I wouldn%26#39;t pay the extra money. I want to say it was something like $11/pp each flight segment? You have a good chance of sitting together anyhow if you have a small party. My hubby and I flew on full flights from Knoxville to Vegas and back, we didn%26#39;t pay the extra fee, and they had already seated us together!

I would fly with them again in a heartbeat. The price was right!

This airline is the same type as Spirt Airlines.Priced right, comfort is second. The positive is that they are offering flights to Greenville

from Ft. Lauderdale, which is where I live and soon to be relocating to Anderson or around that area. Iam glad, I was beginning to worry about traveling.

I was planning to go to Vegas from GSP but they have now cancelled all their Vegas flights after the first week in December. We were planning on New Years in Vegas....oh well....I had to call them. They did not notify me. I just happened to see it on the news yesterday.

    Inappropiate Posting

This morning an individual has started posting his protests of a local rental company all over this forum.

His postings are against the posting guidelines and are disruptive to all the other users. I expect the postings will be removed later today. On behalf of Trip Advisor, I apologise for this behavior.

From time to time vendors of any sort have made mistakes. I know most of them try to rectify them. sometimes it is impossible, or the complainer will not accept a reasonable solution. the activity on the site this morning says more about the poster, than it says about the subject of his abuse.

for the record, I am not involved in the rental business, though many of you know that besides living on Hilton Head, i do have a rental property.

    Stan (hhiguy)

    Inappropiate Posting

    HHIguy,

Thanks for this post. I believe there is a lesson to be learned...for guests/renters.

First, (and I can%26#39;t stress this enough) --TRIP Insurance. Things happen. Unfortunately, vacation rentals are not like hotels. Rental companies and rent-by-owners do not have a huge supply of inventory. Once a property is booked, it is taken out of inventory. During the high season, there is more demand than supply. No one anticipates problems, but problems can and do arise. Protect yourself as a consumer, purchase the trip insurance. It is cheap compared to losing a week%26#39;s vacation.

Second, do not be afraid to ask questions before you rent. If a rental company or owner does not answer your questions, move on to another property. Again you are the consumer and you know what you want from your vacation. I%26#39;ve had folks ask me some crazy questions about my home; I%26#39;ve answered them. Some inquiries became guests, some I passed on knowing my home was not suited for them.

Third, if you use a rental company, try and find out the name of the owner whose property you will be renting. While the rental company is the acting agent for the owner, sometimes we owners do not find out about the problem until too late. Do not assume the rental company is reporting the problem to the property owners. As an owner, I want to know if my guests had problems and if my management company took care of the problem. I now ask my guests to call my management company first; then call me. This way I can make sure things are taken care of...to my guests%26#39; satisfaction and my satisfaction.

    Eliza

(**I do own a vacation property, though it is not located on HHI)

    Inappropiate Posting

Why do you say his was an inappropiate post? The person had some issues that were not resolved to his likeing and expressed them. No foul language was used and only his views were expressed. I have used Island Getaway and had no issues with them they seemed very helpful. I know most like to paint a rosey picture of their favorite places but in some cases that is not always the case.

The posting guidelines are clear. YOU DO NOT MAKE A PERSONAL ATTACK OR NAME AN INDIVIDUAL IN YOUR POST!

He also cut and placed this attack on many of the threads including those which had nothing to do with the company or individual involved. He could have set up a thread where he explained his problem, but not disrupt this forum for his vendetta.

    Stan (hhiguy)

I am on the SC forums only occasionally, but I find it more than annoying when I come here trying to get useful information and find that this guy has clogged the entire SC board with his ';complaint';.

This dude needs to quit wasting everyone%26#39;s time and move on.

I see what you mean. This person is just trying to make a pest of him or her self. Very childish to make complaints when they are unfounded. I have never had a problem with any rentals on HHI that were%26#39;nt resolved ASAP. Some people should be banned by their mommy from the computer.

    Eville,

How can you say his complaint is ';unfounded';. You have no idea. If I had rented a home with those problems, I%26#39;d be mad too. He has every right to voice his experience here, that%26#39;s what the forums are for - I personally like to hear the good as well as the bad - it may save me from a bad rental experience.

What he did wrong was mention the individual%26#39;s name and started three or four threads regarding the same rental. If he had left the man%26#39;s name out of it and only used one thread, he would be fine. When you pay good money for a vacation rental, you expect to get what you pay for. When you walk into a place that has not been cleaned and that has mold, you are mad. But when it is not rectified, you get angry and upset and then your whole vacation is ruined.

This happened to me once at a resort. The condo we rented was nasty, and I mean nasty. The carpets were so stained that we wouldn%26#39;t take our shoes off. I made them shampoo them while I was there, and it made no difference. The furniture was falling apart (and I mean that literally - broken legs, etc.). The beds were so uncomfortable, springs poked your body, it was impossible to sleep. We were constantly killing ants, spider, roaches, etc. Nothing was done by the front desk or the manager of the resort (I started voicing my concerns ten minutes after we walked in the unit) and when I got home I wrote a letter to the parent company headquarters and didn%26#39;t even get a ';I%26#39;m sorry for your experience'; letter in return. So, I feel for the guy. I hope you are never in that position.

Higuy, I know renters make mistakes and USUALLY rectify them. This renter is obviously NOT one of them. If you read this guy%26#39;s post, the owner REFUSED to even have someone clean the unit, or even look at it for that matter. That%26#39;s uncalled for. Do you personally know the gentleman he%26#39;s bashing?

Allthough this poster made some posting mistakes, it sounds like he has a legitimate complaint and you should stop bashing him!

Just to clarify, when I say referred to ';renter'; and ';owner'; I mean rental/management agency.

I know who the owner of the agency is, and the manager%26#39;s name, but I don%26#39;t know them personally.

I agree with Born to Travel that if this situation had been left with one thread and no personal names involved, it would have passed muster, however that is not what happened.

Trip Advisor has resolved the issue and removed the offending posts. I think the situation is closed and this thread should terminate.

    Stan (hhiguy)

Born sorry about your expereince. The person may or may not have had a valid reason to post what he did. In most cases like this the poster usally has a beef with the person they named or is just trying to cause a uproar. I never had a bad experience with a rental due to the fact that I do my homework and check them out thoroughly.

    Hi Stan,

I missed the inappropriate posting that you are referring too. I understand it was involving Island Getaway. Could you let me know what the man%26#39;s complaint was? We are coming down on Saturday and

staying at Shelter cove marina (Captains Quarters), since I have never dealt with them before, I am very anxious to hear what the problem was?

    Thanks very much.

Magnolias is almost next door. Just down the sidewalk is Blossoms. If you want really casual pub-grub, go to Vendue Range at Concord and eat at The Griffon. The locals call it The Griff.

Across from Lodge Alley Inn is a restaurant that is definately not casual but unique - Roberts. The owner/chef cooks, serves and sings throughout the evening. Reservations are required.

  • Myrtle Beach in Winter?

I%26#39;m trying to plan a short 3 or 4 day getaway for my hubby and I in December. We%26#39;ve never been to MB and I know the rates are low this time of year. Can anyone give me any insight into what it%26#39;s like there in the winter? Weather, things to do,etc. Thank you:)

    Myrtle Beach in Winter?

    Hi journey

You%26#39;ll see a Myrtle Beach few see. The weather this time of year can vary greatly but in general our winters are mild. Things to do: hummmm,,,,A oceanfront room..... with walks along the beach.

Maybe try Broadway at the beach for a nice evening dinner and maybe a drink at any of the many bars along the waterfront.

    Mike:)

    Myrtle Beach in Winter?

Check some of the shows. Alabama Theater and Carolina Opry switch to their Christmas shows during December.

Yes, December rates are a small fraction of what they are in August, and the indoor pools will be much less crowded. Some places heat their outdoor pools %26amp; spas. Most outdoor activities %26amp; perhaps a third of the restaurants will not be open, but things are far from ';dead.'; Lots of specials at this time of year, check the local newspaper.

As for weather, expect some cold spells, but generally expect highs in the fifties %26amp; sixties. If you golf the courses are not crowded.

I really enjoy the Myrtle Beach area in the off season. One thing to add to the suggestions is SHOPPING! I love to shop the outlets!!!!!

How about eating at all the best restaurants with NO wait !

December is a great time to vist Myrtle Beach. We were there right after Christmas one year and really enjoyed all the Christmas decorations. Also, we stayed at a very nice ocean front hotel for alot less than what you would pay in the summer. If you are lucky the weather could be nice enough to walk on the beach and find some neat shells.

We always go to MB from Christmas to New Years. Several reasons, the beach is still enjoyable for long uncrowded walks, no lines anywhere to contend with, the Christmas Shows are still on, The Carolina Opry is an annual treat and is excellent, great shopping for bargains, etc. We started going at that time to allow our grandchildren time to enjoy their Christmas without having to get out and go ';see about Grandma and Grandpa';. It has evolved to the point that they now go with us most years, they enjoy the ';noncrowds'; also, and their ';toys'; will still be new when they get home.

    Hey there,

I think most of the posters were dead on. Myrtle Beach is great in December. The weather can change a lot so you have to be prepared for both warm and cool weather in the same week. Last year I hung my Christmas lights in shorts and a t-shirt, but wore a jacket to the tree lighting ceremony at Broadway at the Beach a few nights later. The average temperatures for MB in December are 60.

As far as things to do, the ocean is too cold in December for swimming, so leave the swimsuits at home. You can still walk on the beach and even layout for some sun if you get a warmer day. You could take the short drive to Murrells Inlet and have dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants on the marsh. As mentioned by other posters, all the theatres are running their holiday shows, and Broadway hosts Christmas events all month long.

By far one of the coolest holiday events is the Night of 1000 Candles at Brookgreen Gardens. This outdoor sculpture park and art museum lights hundreds of candles throughout the park and features live music, food and drinks each weekend night during December. It%26#39;s usually under $10 per person and is well worth it.

If I could suggest something outside the norm...every December my wife and I make a trip to Charleston, SC for a weekend. If you plan on being in for a few days and have a car you may consider breaking up the trip into a Myrtle Beach/Charleston vacation. Charleston has a ton of holiday events, theatre, restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Charleston will give you the cultural element the beach lacks. The city does a fantastic job of embracing the holiday experience with tons of decorations and lights. It%26#39;s about a 2 hour drive from the beach and very easy to get to (one road, drive in the right direction for 2 hrs and your there). If you%26#39;re looking for a romantic trip, then add Charleston to your list. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll enjoy the carriage ride on cobblestone streets surrounded by Christmas lights as much as we did!

    Anyways, hope this helps!

For cottages or condos, consider Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, or Sullivans Island. The drive is more like 20 minutes, but very easy; and the beach atmosphere is nice.

Within 10 minutes of downtown, you are limited to hotels, motels, and b%26amp;b%26#39;s. Within Charleston proper there are few, if any, private residences available for short-term rent.

Beware of Westgate Resorts and Hotelscorp.com!

If anyone is surfing the net and looking for discount tickets to attractions or hotels- beware of these two companies. I was doing just that, and found an ad for discounted Dixie Stampede tickets. When I called I knew right away it was a timeshare, but I thought I would give it a try anyway. I had heard that you could get some pretty nice deals for just sitting through some kind of 90 minute presentation. Well, I called up HotelsCorp.com who books for the

Westgate Resort, and after much time spent in negotiation (talk about a used-car shop), we got what we thought was a great deal, 3 tickets to the Dixie Stampede for $25. My wife gave the customer service rep our credit card number with the authorization to charge $25.00 to our account. Now comes the hitch...After we had spent about an hour on the phone, given our credit card number and been charged, a ';verification'; manager comes on the phone to supposedly verify all the information we have exchanged. One of the first questions asked was about our income. My wife, being the honest person that she is, told them our income. The ';verifier'; said that we no longer qualified for the deal and that we were not eligible to receive the discounted tickets. I asked them why it had taken so long (over an hour) before they asked about our income, and they said that that was a mistake, we should have been asked sooner in our phone call about our income. We expressed our anger succintly, but they would not budge on the fact that our income was too low for us to qualify for the discount tickets or presentation tour. They refused to help us. As a matter of interest, my husband called up two more times, giving a phony name, to see if the service rep would ask about our income before getting a credit card number to charge for the discounted attraciton, they did not! Interesting...

The next day we checked our on-line bank account. Sure enough, we had been charged by HotelCorp.com for the ';discount tickets';. Only the charge was $44 dollars instead of the original $25 agreed upon. We called HotelCorp.com and got hung up on twice!

This place is a scam! Do not call them or give them a credit card number. We have yet to see if they will credit our account, they have told us they will in the next five days...but I%26#39;m not holding my breath. A total waste of time and money...Stay away from them and tell your friends and family to stay away from them. I would hate to have bought a time-share from them, can you imagine what a nightmare that would be? Has anyone else had any similar experiences with either HotelCorp.com or others like them?

Are there any reputable places that someone could tell us about that would offer discounts on attractions for attending a timeshare presentation?

Beware of Westgate Resorts and Hotelscorp.com!

Might try Wyndham Resorts. They have tours of their Ocean Blvd location. Think we picked up $75 for our tour last year. After we joined we went in for meeting during our first visit this year and recieved two Aquarium tickets.

Had similar ';bad'; experience here this week. Attended Rib Fesival a few weeks ago. Everybody that entered the festival filled out entry forms. Surprise, surprise.......Ours was selected.

We recieved call saying we had ';won'; free 3-4 day trip to visit resort in Harrisonburg, VA. plus a bonus trip to Orlando. Talked to one person for several minutes before being passed to ';verification'; person. Half the conversations were BS sessions trying to sound like we had something in common.

We also were asked for charge card for $45 fee to ';lock'; our reservation. Refunded when we showed up for tour. We never got around to giving the card number. We figured we would have a say in when we would make the trip. Wrong. Had to be in the next two months and they wanted us to choose right then. Told em to forget it. They weren%26#39;t too happy.

Way I see it I tied them up for close to an hour. That%26#39;s an hour they weren%26#39;t bugging someone else............

Beware of Westgate Resorts and Hotelscorp.com!

Most timeshare companies required that both husband and wife attend sales presentation and have a minium combined income of usually $70,000 (sometimes as low as $50,000). Are you looking for Myrtle Beach or Orlando? I wasn%26#39;t aware that Westgate had any resorts in Myrtle Beach.

Westgate is here in MB. I would call Myrtle Beach Better Business Bureau and write a letter to the chamber, just to let them know you feel you were swcammed.

We own at Sheraton Broadway Plantation Resort here in MB, we purchased 1 wk year before moving here, we give that week to our kids when they come down. We could exchange it, but for now it works doing it that way.

Wyndham is also big timeshare presenter in North MB.

Hart1 - What is the name of the Wesgate timeshare in Myrtle Beach? Thanks.

I agree with Hart 1 don%26#39;t let them get away with taking your money. We own a timeshare and did an exchange in a Westgate resort near Disney World. We told the salesman we weren%26#39;t interested in the 90 min. spiel because we already own a week, but he was very nice and we got free breakfast and what the heck,we had some time. After the BS session we again said no thanks . Well let me tell you the price of the week began to drop from $26,000 to 16,000. ';No thanks'; we said , well, then his manager had to come over just to ';verify ';our ';No';. Well, this guy had some pushy attitude and wouldn%26#39;t take no for an answer. My husband was getting really p-oed and had to get nasty with this guy. The price of the week went down to $6,000 for a week every other year. I could not believe these people. I have since told everyone I know avoid Westgate and if you are a timeshare owner do not sit for their talk. Its not worth the discount or free whatever. They were awful.

Westgate Resorts- I don%26#39;t think it goes by any other name its located at 415 Ocean Blvd South in MB.

I do fully understand your complaint about westgate resorts but if would of read the terms and conditions maybe you would of never called and went thru all this problem... ****PLEASE READ THE TERMS %26amp; CONDITONS** and blame yourselves and not the company... personally if you read the terms and conditons which talks about your income...and all the other questions they ask you about the qualifications about taking the tour.. which every 1 knows that every where there is a discount is a THERE IS A CATCH!!!.. HOPE THIS IS GOOD ADVISE FOR YOU.. BEFORE YOU GO AND TRY TO RUIN A COMPANY%26#39;S REPUTATION..

There%26#39;s a fine line between legal and ethical.

If a company uses smoke and mirrors to draw in customers. Then has to hide behind a bunch of legal language fine print to get by with it. Maybe they%26#39;re not all that ethical.

Thumbs up to anybody warning others of those practices. Maybe now the next person contacted will know not to fall for it.

P.S.........If you go back and read the original post....You%26#39;ll see the transaction was over the phone. Hard to read TERMS AND CONDITIONS over the phone.

    Crazibori,

First of all I am not trying to ruin a company%26#39;s reputation I know how valuable reputation is. However when I feel that I was deliberately misled then I feel it is my obligation to at least warn others so they can be aware and not fall into the same trap. As Pop mentioned this was done over the phone so terms and conditions were never mentioned. That is my major complaint. I feel when you are on the phone you should be made aware of this upfront. Don%26#39;t you think this would save them a lot of time and energy as well. I don%26#39;t have a problem with the minimum income, I understand that they are trying to sell something that isn%26#39;t cheap. But to wait to tell you this after they had already taken my credit card number and actually charged my card I believe borders on fraudulent. A manager told me that the employees are trained to ask about income first thing and that the person who helped us had just made a mistake. I called two more times that night and two other people never asked about income before they asked for my credit card. This tells me that this is a pretty standard practice for the company.
